Acoustic Signature of an Unmanned Air Vehicle - Exploitation for Aircraft Localisation and Parameter Estimation

چکیده
Higher harmonics in the acoustic spectrogram of an unmanned air vehicle in-flight, as obtained from a ground-based microphone measurement, is shown to be useful for estimating the vehicle's altitude, speed and true engine revolutions per minute. Specifically, the Doppler-shifted frequency time histories derived from spectrogram contours are used in this estilnation approach which is based on a least mean square error fit to an instantaneous frequency model proposed in the literature. Benefits of employing higher harmonics rather than the fundamental only in the computations are brought out. The results obta ined a re satisfactory. A possible system conf igurat ion for automat ic detect ion and localisation of similar aircraft is briefly discussed here.

In-Trim Flight Investigations of a Conceptual Fluidic Thrust-Vectored Unmanned Tail-Sitter Aircraft
The feasibility of using a stand alone Fluidic Thrust-Vectoring (FTV) system for the purpose of longitudinal trim of an unmanned aerial vehicle is the focus of the research presented in this paper. Since the fluidic thrust vectoring requires high pressure secondary air to deflect the engine exhaust gases, this research also provides an analytical toolset for preliminary sizing of a suitable sec...
متن کاملDigital Autoland Control Laws Using Direct Digital Design and Quantitative Feedback Theory
Manually landing an unmanned aerial vehicle presents unique challenges since unmanned vehicle pilots require extensive training to become proficient in the landing task. Operators must therefore choose between a pilot controlling the vehicle from a ground station, or procurement of an automatic landing system. Although several autoland controllers exist for small or micro unmanned vehicles and ...
متن کاملDesigning and Modeling a Control System for Aircraft in the Presence of Wind Disturbance (TECHNICAL NOTE)
This paper proposes a switching adaptive control for trajectory tracking of unmanned aircraft systems. The switching adaptive control method is designed to overcome the wind disturbance and achieve a proper tracking performance for control systems. In the suggested system, the wind disturbance is regarded as a finite set of uncertainties; a controller is designed for each uncertainty, and a per...
متن کاملInitial Study of An Effective Fast-time Simulation Platform for Unmanned Aircraft System Traffic Management
Small unmanned aircraft systems are envisioned to play a major role in surveilling critical assets, collecting data, and delivering goods. Large scale operations are expected to happen in low altitude airspace in the near future, where many static and dynamic constraints exist. High sensitivity to wind and high maneuverability are unique characteristics of these vehicles, which bring great chal...
متن کاملDetecting, Tracking, and Identifying Airborne Threats with Netted Sensor Fence
Today’s technological advances allow for the development of unmanned aerial systems, fixed-wing aircraft, that are small enough and fly low enough to elude conventional radar detection. Such aircraft could carry out chemical, biological, or nuclear attacks, or they could be employed to smuggle drugs or illegal immigrants across the border. This chapter describes a low cost, low power (potential...
